Daggerheart: The Epic Heroic Fantasy Role-Playing Game

Daggerheart is the medieval fantasy role-playing game created by the creators of Critical Role. Its original system, designed for a decidedly narrative-driven approach, uses two 12-sided dice: the Hope die and the Fear die. Around the table, every player actively participates in the narrative, making choices that truly shape the group’s story. And let’s not forget the heroic and dynamic combat!

This starter set includes everything you need to play, except for the dice: you’ll need a full set of dice (4-, 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, and 20-sided) as well as two 12-sided dice in different colors.

How do you play Daggerheart?

When you attempt an action, roll two 12-sided dice: the Hope die and the Fear die. The sum of the two dice determines success or failure. If the Fear die’s roll exceeds that of the Hope die, the game master gains a Fear point, to be spent later to activate their monsters’ powers. Conversely, if Hope wins out, it’s a heroic success for the player, accompanied by a resource point to trigger their special abilities.

As for characters, everything is handled through a card system featuring hundreds of illustrations, so you don’t have to keep your nose buried in the rulebook! Combine lineages, communities, and classes to shape your hero, then develop them using 189 unique skills and spells drawn from 9 thematic domains. A starter scenario is included so you can jump right in, but nothing stops you from creating your own game setting with your group!
