How do you play L'attaque Des Concombres?

On each turn, the second card played sets the trick’s rule: should you play a higher or lower card than the first one? It’s up to you to never play the card with the greatest difference in value—or else you’ll take the trick and its nasty cucumbers! After 4 rounds, the winner is the player who has accumulated the fewest cucumbers.
